Epiphone Olympic Double 1965
Hello! I'm a 1965 Epiphone Olympic Double with a vibrola tailpiece. In about 1968 the Beatles were some of the first to start removing the finish off of many of their instruments. Their motives were to get a better sound through less finish to impede the natural vibrations of the tonewood used. I have had a former owner execute a similar treatment and thankfully he did not use sandpaper or remove my headstock face finish and logo. All of my body contours and original woodwork are intact. It appears as if the original cherry finish started to check and chip and they just started picking until most of the lacquer was gone. I'm a natural true vintage beauty that hasn't been refinished, just unfinished. My single coils pump out rich, powerful tones, the lightweight body is very resonant & the slender profile neck is super comfortable to play up & down the fret-board. I've been professionally inspected by the vintage experts at Randee's Music & set up by our own master luthier, so I play perfectly.
